Research and organizational work of BCH

According to restructuring program of RAS and on co-ordination with Presidium of RAS, necessary measures were carried out in 2004 on reorganizing the ISCSCE KSC RAS into Centre of humanitarian problems of the Barents Region (Barents Centre of the Humanities - BCH) with legal position of a Branch of KSC RAS. On Presidium KSC RAS Resolution of 27 May 2004 N 2, Prof. V.P. Petrov was commissioned as BCH organizing director.

Cadre

According to the state of January 1, 2005 in the Centre are working 11 members of staff, of them administrative staff make 2 persons, research staff - 9 persons:

· Chief researcher - 1,
· Chief specialist - 1,
· Head of sector - 1,
· Researcher - 2,
· Junior researcher - 4.

Among staff members of the Centre there are: 1 doctor of sciences (history), 1 candidate of sci., 1 post-graduate external student, 2 competitors for academic degree. Combine jobs with the work at the Centre 10 persons, among them are 1 doctor of sci., 2 candidates of sci., 1 post-graduate student.

Activity of the Academic council of BCH KSC RAS

Academic council of BCH was elected on decision of the general meeting of 01.02.05 and consists of: Director, doctor of geol.-min. sci., professor, honoured worker of science Petrov V.P., Deputy director, doctor of hist sci. Razumova I.A., Academic secretary Vinogradova S.N., Chief specialist for international contacts candidate of phys.-math. sci. Kravchenko-Berezhnoy R.A., Head of museum sector Patsia E. Ya., Chief academic secretary of KSC RAS candidate of geol.-min. sci. Vinogradov A.N., Head of Chair of philosophy and sociology KB PetrSU candidate of philos. Sci. Izmodenova N.N., Head of scientific archive KSC RAS candidate of hist. sci. Makarova E.I.

At sittings of BCH Academic council the questions are discussed on: Determination of priority directions of BCH activity, drafts of programs to the plan of research work for the current year, work plans of the executors, themes and individual plans of post-graduates and competitors for acad. degree. Academic council coordinates the activity of Museum on history of study and developing of Russia European North, determines the most prospective forms of Museum's enlightening and educational activity. Academic council hears and approves papers and reports on research themes and projects, where workers of the Centre are involved, the reports on results of field investigetions, the Director's report on results of the Centre activity during the year. reports.

Publishing activity of the Centre

In 2004, collected papers of ISCSCE "Ethno-cultural process in the Kola North" were pubished, editors Doct.geol.-min.Sci V.P. Petrov and Doct.hist Sci. I.A.Razumova. The book contains 14 articles of 17.15 quires general volume.

2001

International conference "Eastern Sami: the past and the future", on 28-31 October, with participation of researchers and representatives of eastern Sami from Russia, from Norway and Finland, with support of the Sami parliament of Norway.

International seminar "System of social protection of invalids in Murmansk oblast. Problems and prospects", on 06 March 2001, with support of charity organization the Norwegian Red Cross.

International seminar "Problems of Autism", on 12 September 2001, with support of charity organization the Swedish Red Cross.

2002

International seminar "History of women's movement for equal rights in Sweden", March 2002, with support of Norbotten's Social-democratic Party (Norway).

A range of seminars and training for an international group of students on the theme "Projects management", December 2002, with participation of Tromso University.

2003

International seminar "Sami youth - problems of adaptation, saving of traditions, folk arts", August 2003, with support of International Olav Palme centre.

2004

Humanitarian section "Socio-economic and ethno-cultural processes in the European North: the pat and the present day" of the 5th regional scientific students conference "Nature-scientific problems of the Arctic Region", April 2004, with participation of Murmansk Pedagogical University and Humanitarian faculty of KB PetrSU.

International seminar "15 years of cooperation between Murmansk oblast and Finnmark/ Samarbeid mellom Finnmark og Murmansk siste 15 ar", 1 July 2004, jointly with Murmansk oblast Administration and Government of Finnmark (Norway).

International seminar "Cooperation for mutual growth with promotion of local competence and resources", 2 July 2004, jointly with Technopark (Apatity), Presidium KSC RAS and the Finnmark Government (Norway).

International seminar "Combat for Clean Waters", 30 August - 3 September 2004, jointly with the "Barents Environmental Platform" project.
